Interview: ETERNAL FEAR (POL)

Lolth: When did you start making music?

Nerthon: I think it was around 1993, first experience I got in 94 during record MISTERIUM “Death by hanging” demo as a trio.

Lolth: Why did you start ETERNAL FEAR?

Nerthon: Due to changes in my first BM band called VALLACHIA line up, in short from the grief, sorrow and anger and the fear of course.

Lolth: Why did you choose the name “Nerthon”?

Nerthon: I was looking good sounding name. I think Nerthon is one of them, it is unique and paganic. We could very often find names were appeared two letters one by one, I mean “th” like Quorthon from BATHORY or Thorgal from the comics. This is the secret of my name.

Lolth: What are your musical inspirations?

Nerthon: The main inspiration was the longing for old pagan times and then death of close family members or even loss of a dog. Meditation and reflection were the main factors. Currently, I don’t listen to music at all and I’m not looking for inspiration, but if we talked about ambient genre I must say that was classical music, the magic of going to the cinema also did its job.

Lolth: What do you think of the term "dungeon synth"?

Nerthon: It’s good and I like it, and I have no problem with this term, but in the beginning, when I started, it was not used in our region and our specific society. We called it rather a kind of ambient style.

Lolth: Do you keep up with the scene today or do you prefer to remain recluse?

Nerthon: Very good question. Well in YouTube times it hard to miss what are presented other artist. There are so many bands with interesting dose of emotiotal sound. Their music surprised me. We had a lot of choice, I mean from psycho ambient to majestic style… back to your question: in a sense you have Righ. Yes, yes, I am a recluse, it is part of my nature and character. Nerthon is the avatar of the musical personality known as ETERNAL FEAR.

Lolth: Your only demo as ETERNAL FEAR, “ancient woods,” is now considered dungeon synth classic. Was anything else ever recorded for ETERNAL FEAR, or is this the only recording that was ever made?

Nerthon: In same year I recorded with minimal support of VALLACHIA memmbers demo: Zvantevith – Pagan souls of Ryczyn. But one year after this records we had second unpleasant incident. (You know, struggle in underground Beetweween some persons had lead to large confused). Similar like first with VALLACHIA between 93/94 year, thats why I renamed from Zvantevith to EF and ended cooperation with some people to avoid another disappoint. Thats why I think the second demo EF- "Pagan Souls..." has very stormy interesting story.

Lolth: Do you have any plans for music in the future?

Nerthon: About ETERNAL FEAR? I’m thinking about this thing sometimes… it’s a matter of free time… in case of VALLACHIA for sure, MISTERIUM probably not...

Lolth: Any last words..?
